MONTREAL, Canada and BERLIN, Germany, September 10, 2003 - Polyplan Technologies (Polyplan), the thought leader in collaborative Manufacturing Process Management (cMPM), today announced that Bombardier Transportation has selected Polyplan to provide a digital shared environment between engineering and manufacturing, contributing to a reduction in costs and risks as well as a simplification of manufacturing processes within Bombardier Transportation's product development process.
Polyplan will deploy its unique cMPM solution to enable Bombardier Transportation's manufacturing engineering groups to define assembly and tooling strategies, as well as designing manufacturing processes and preparing shop floor work instructions. By working directly from the digital mock-up of the targeted assembly, Polyplan users are able to quickly react to Engineering Changes. Also, Polyplan users will support multi-site interactive design and analysis to allow Bombardier Transportation to further collaborate with their suppliers and customers.
The Polyplan cMPM solution also makes it possible to reuse manufacturing competencies and create standard processes through the management and sharing of manufacturing process information, geometry, specifications, resource data and documentation. The Polyplan solution is tightly integrated with the customer's CAD/PDM and ERP systems, providing coherency between products, resources and manufacturing processes throughout multiple systems and plants.
"The deployment of Polyplan cMPM will allow our manufacturing process planners to fully collaborate with engineering early in the product lifecycle," stated Gaston Hebert, Executive Vice President and Chief Engineer at Bombardier Transportation. "Polyplan's innovative cMPM solution provides us with a head start to prepare our employees and facilities for new products and to react rapidly to design changes. In this way, we can deliver products to our customers faster, while improving quality and innovation at the same time as reducing our costs."
"Manufacturing Process Management is a key element of a Product Lifecycle Management strategy as it ensures that product design is sensitive to manufacturing capabilities and constraints," says Ed Miller, President of CIMdata, an acknowledged leader in the application of PLM and related technologies and processes.
"This agreement reinforces our close relationship with Bombardier Transportation and underscores the importance of cMPM for gaining competitive advantage," said Robert Beauchemin, President and CEO of Polyplan. "The early collaboration between engineering and manufacturing not only significantly reduces the time to deliver the first units to customers, but it also reduces the errors between engineering and manufacturing, which means improved product quality and increased productivity."
